What I learned
In my Ethics of Health Administration course, I completed a book report on The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. This assignment allowed me to explore the historical and ethical complexities of healthcare, particularly surrounding patient rights, informed consent, and medical research practices. Through both reading the book and analyzing its themes, I gained a deeper understanding of how healthcare practices in the past often lacked ethical standards that are now considered essential. This experience strengthened my awareness of the importance of patient autonomy, transparency, and ethical responsibility in modern healthcare. It also helped me develop critical thinking skills by connecting historical events to current healthcare policies and practices, reinforcing the role ethics plays in shaping today’s healthcare system.
